Robert James Sonntag, long-time resident of Norwalk, died on April 29, 2016 after a short illness. Robert was born March 9, 1928 in New Canaan, CT. He was a graduate of Wright Technical School and worked as a machinist, tool and die maker and model maker for Pitney-Bowes , Inc, for thirty-five years in Stamford, Norwalk, and Shelton. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Rose M. Sonntag of Norwalk, his parents William and Mary Sonntag of Norwalk, his sister Ruth Russo of Easton, CT, his three brothers, William Sonntag of Silvermine, Arthur Sonntag of Wilton, and John Sonntag of Norwalk. He is survived by his four children: Margaret M. Sonntag of Hamden, CT, Maureen R. Sonntag of Norwalk, Robert G. Sonntag and his wife Lauren McCann Sonntag of Sandy Hook, CT, Michael T. Sonntag and his wife Kristen Murphy Sonntag of Newport Beach, CA, three grandchildren , Sean M. Sonntag, Christopher G. Sonntag, and Kevin M. Sonntag, his dear friend and companion Concetta Peters of Southport, CT and his many nieces and nephews. Robert served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a life member of the New Canaan VFW Post 653 and a member of the Norwalk American Legion Post 12.
