Obituary of Vona Bach

Vona Hopkins Bach, 81, of New Canaan, CT, passed away on November 1, 2015, at Waveny Care Center after a long illness. Vona was born on March 11, 1934, in Perry, Iowa, to the late Emery Victor and Nellie O. Hopkins. Vona was the valedictorian of her class at Perry High School. She later attended Cornell College earning a BA degree. Later in her career, she was awarded an MBA degree from New York University. She held the Certified Financial Planner designation. In 1964 Vona joined Reynolds Securities, the predecessor of Morgan Stanley, where she became the firm’s first female officer. After a 40 year career in the Financial Services Industry, Vona retired to New Canaan with her husband A. James Bach, one of the three sibling owners of the Melba Inn. Vona was a longtime service volunteer at Waveny Care Center as the leader of the exercise program. She was also active in the Garden Center and served as Treasurer of its Festival of Trees. She also enjoyed extensive world travel as well as summers in Maine. In addition to her husband, Vona is survived in life by her brother-in-law, Robert M. Bach of Portsmouth, NH, and her sister-in-law, Lucy-Ann Morrow Bach of Madison, CT. A Memorial Service to honor Vona’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made in Vona’s memory to The Waveny Care Center or the charity of one’s choice.
