Obituary of Lillian Becker

Born June 6, 1922, in New York City, Lillian was the daughter of Lillian Doscher and Peter Moller Jr. As a youth she attended the Saint Agatha School in New York City and would later graduate from New Canaan High School in 1940. She received a bachelor’s degree from Smith College in 1944, where she resided in German House, and attended the New York University School of Medicine. She married Dr. Robert Otto Becker on September 13, 1946, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Canaan. The couple initially resided in New York City, then in Vermont, Germany and Long Island prior to moving to the greater Syracuse, New York area in the late 1950s, and then to the foothills of the Adirondacks in 1980. When in New York she worked in the laboratory of Dr. Bird at Cornell University. Along with raising a family, Mrs. Becker was actively involved with a many community organizations; she was a member of the school board in LaFayette, NY, a member of the Central New York Orchid Society, President of Lewis County Head Start in Lowville NY and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lowville. For over forty years she took great pride in raising orchids and had a splendid greenhouse. Having a keen interest in the humanities she continued her studies even into her eighties at the Mohawk Valley Institute for Life Long Learning. In 2009 she returned to Connecticut where she resided in Redding until the time of her death. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa, and son, Adam, and grandchildren Ashley and Alan.
