Obituary of Rose Lynch
Rose Peabody Parsons Lynch, aged 92 and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died at her home in New Canaan, Connecticut this past Saturday, July 11 after a brief illness. Known as Rosie, she was born in New York City on July 1, 1923, the oldest daughter of William Barclay Parsons, Jr. M.D., and Rose Peabody Parsons. Her grandparents were Endicott Peabody, founder of the Groton School, and his wife Fanny Peabody, and William Barclay Parsons, founder of an engineering firm that later became Parsons Brinkerhoff and chief engineer of the first subway in New York City and the Cape Cod Canal, and his wife Anna Reed Parsons. Rosie was passionate about her extended family, the Groton School and, most of all, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. At the time of her death, she was an Honorary Council member of the Women’s Prison Association, on whose Board she served for 45 years from 1969-2014 and as President from 1976 to 1979. Later in life, she was equally devoted to Staying Put, serving as an enthusiastic volunteer for this wonderful organization based in New Canaan, which is dedicated to serving the needs of the community’s senior citizens helping them to enjoy safer, healthier and more independent lives in their own homes. In everything she did, Rosie brought both a strong hand and an even stronger sense of humor, for which all who knew her will remember as her most endearing quality. She will be deeply missed by her children, Rose Peabody Lynch of Greenwich, CT and New York City, R. Vincent Lynch, Jr. of New York City and his wife Cynthia, and Alexander Parsons Lynch of Greenwich, CT and his wife Sally, as well as her eight grandchildren and six, soon-to-be seven, great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully received by Staying Put, 58 Pine Street, New Canaan, CT 06840. A memorial service will be held in her honor in New Canaan in September.
