Obituary of Molly Gilmartin
Molly Gilmartin, 63, beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed peacefully from this life on January 6, 2010, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Center, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Molly was born on July 27, 1946 to the late Roger Thomas Gilmartin and Mary Doris (Hillis) Gilmartin. She grew up in Locust Valley, NY and received her bachelor’s degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY and her master’s in education from Boston College.
Her first two loves were being a mother to her daughter, Catherine Elizabeth Gilmartin, and being a teacher to many pre-K through first grade students over many years at South Elementary School in New Canaan, CT.
She showered endless love on to her five nephews and filled each of their childhoods with endless memories of children’s sing-a-longs, illustrated storybooks and laughter-filled board games.
Molly never met a holiday for which she would not want to decorate and shared her love of holidays with family and friends.
In addition to her daughter, Catherine, Molly is survived by her brother, Tom Gilmartin, and his wife, Olga, of San Diego, CA; her sisters, Christine and Carol Gilmartin of Glen Head, NY; her brother, Roger Gilmartin, and his wife, Leslee, of Charlotte, NC; her nephew, Tom Gilmartin, and his wife, Sara; her nephews, Christopher, Andrew, Matt and Jon Gilmartin; and her great-nephews, Keegan and Tobin Gilmartin.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. Aloysius Church, New Canaan at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends at the Hoyt Funeral Home on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 4-8 PM.
