Obituary of Brian Jackson

Brian Paul Jackson, age 33, a resident of Southbury, CT died onThursday April 9, 2015 in Norwalk Hospital with his loving family by his side. Brian succumbed after a brave fight with a brain tumor. Born in Stamford, CT March 31, 1982, raised in Roxbury, CT, he was the son of Charles P. and Mary Coughlin Jackson of Southbury. After graduating from Shepaug Valley High School in 2000, Brian received a Bachelor of Arts degree form Sarah Lawrence College and later a Master of Business Administration from Fordham University. He worked at Four Winds Hospital and Fountain House as a mental health caseworker. He was an accomplished musician and played the bass guitar, the electric guitar, and produced electronic music. In addition to playing with a number of local bands, he taught himself digital recording and recorded music for friends and bands as well as his own compositions. He loved “jamming’”with his friends and relatives and especially enjoyed attending concerts. He developed a music therapy program at Four Winds Hospital. As a youth, he played ice hockey in the Washington Gunnery Hockey League and roller hockey with a local Connecticut team that made it to the Roller Hockey national championships twice where they were outgunned by larger teams, notably the City of Detroit. Brian worked hard to make a positive difference as evidenced by his work with non- profits namely Save the Children and The Tom Dooley Foundation, where he served as director of development. Brian loved hiking and fishing and found great peace doing both in the Shepaug River Valley where he grew up. He also enjoyed traveling, especially visiting his brother in Colorado and his recent trip to California snowboarding. In addition to his parents, Brian is survived by his brother Mark William Jackson of Colorado, his grandparents William and Janet Jackson in New Hampshire and many loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends. He brought joy to all with his musical talent, his challenging wit, his inquisitive mind, and his kindness & sensitivity. He could be counted on to lend a helping hand and give giant hugs when needed. He will be remembered for his loyalty to friends and family and the way he faced his challenges with grace and dignity. We miss you, Brian! A funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday April 17 at St Matthew Catholic Church in Norwalk CT at 216 Scribner Ave. A Celebration of Brian’s Life Party will be held outdoors in Roxbury CT at the Apple Lane Park toward the end of May.
