Obituary of Jane Terry
Jane Francis McCartan Terry, 92, of Woodbridge, formerly of Wilton, died Thursday, December 4, 2009 at her home.
Born July 2, 1917, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel McCartan and of Tressa Sinnott McCartan.
A graduate of Lower Merion High School in the Philadelphia area, Jane was employed by Strawbridge & Clothier, a well-known Philadelphia based department store. She married William W. Terry on August 5th of 1944 and the couple honeymooned in San Francisco. After marriage, Jane became a longtime Wilton resident in the Silvermine neighborhood. A homemaker and mother of six, she was an active member of her church parish and later a familiar face as a nurse’s assistant in the Wilton school system. In later years Jane also worked at Silver Hill hospital in New Canaan. Her many interests included world travel, gardening, music and especially spending time with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, practicing yoga, cooking and enjoying nature around her longtime home on the banks of the Silvermine River.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband of fifty four years, William Wells(Bill) Terry, who passed away in July of 1998 and by her son, William Wells Terry Jr. who died on April 20, 1961. She is survived by her three sons, Peter Terry of Syracuse, NY, Michael Terry of Trumbull, CT and Christopher T. Terry of Logan, UT. and by her two daughters, Jane Giardino of Richland, WA and Jennifer Terry of Southbury, CT. Jane's sister, Mary McCartan of Doylestown, PA and her seven grandchildren also survive.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilton at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
