Obituary of Isabelle Canavan

Isabelle E. Canavan, (“Betty”) 90, of Redding, CT formerly of New Canaan and Jupiter, Florida, died peacefully Wednesday evening January 7, 2015 with her loving children by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 21, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Isabelle Clarke. She was pre deceased by her loving husband William J. Canavan, Jr. Betty was a member of the Woodway Country Club, where she got a “Hole in One” and was a member of the 9 Holer and 18 Holer Club. She was also a member of the Jonathans Landing Club in Jupiter, Florida. Betty was a volunteer at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan and later became a benefactor of the Waveny Alzheimer’s Wing. She and her husband Bill were also benefactors of the Audubon Society in New Canaan and The Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ where her husband graduated and received an honorary doctor of engineering degree. Betty and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the world and spending time with their family on their boat the “Lucky Bee” named after her. They traveled up and down the east coast and spent time in Nantucket and Block Island with their children and grandchildren. Besides being devoted to her husband and friends she was a devoted Mother and Grandmother . She is survived by her four children William J. Canavan III of Newbury, NH, Peter A. Canavan of New London, NH, Nancy Canavan Tomlinson of Georgia’s Mills, NH and Elizabeth Canavan McCaskey of Fairfield, CT. Five granddaughters, Kathryn, Patience, Jenna, Isabelle and Mary Grace and two great grandsons Kaden and Lincoln. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm. at the Gilbert Room at Meadow Ridge, 100 Redding Rd. Redding, Connecticut. Burial will be private.
