Obituary of David Ottenstein
David L. Ottenstein, 78, a resident of Darien since 1969, died Friday, November 20, 2009 at Stamford Hospital.
Born 7June 1931, in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Peter & Jeanne Samuelson Ottenstein. David served in the United States Air Force 1954-1956 before taking a law degree from Georgetown University. David worked as a corporate lawyer with a specialty in taxes for Southern Railroad, Atlantic Richfield, and Bangor Punta where was a Vice-President in their Tax and Treasury groups and served on the boards of Smith and Wesson, Starcraft Boats, and Piper Aircraft.
He retired after some 25 years to devote himself to family and the community. He was an active member at both the Darien and New Canaan Libraries and most recently, especially enjoyed spending time with his friends at the New Canaan YMCA.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gee Ottenstein of Darien, two sons, Robert E. Ottenstein of NY, NY and Neil A. Ottenstein of Bowie, MD., his brother, Laurence Ottenstein of Towson, MD and his sister, Harriett Krucoff of Crofton, MD. Four grandchildren, Rachel Rose, Alan Michael, Elizabeth Francis and Claire Russell Ottenstein also survive.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the New Canaan Library, 112 Main St., New Canaan at 2:00 PM.
