Obituary of Thomas Briody
Thomas A. Briody, age 85, a Wilton resident for over 37 years died Friday October 24, 2014 in Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness, with his loving family by his side.
Born in New York City, September 4, 1929, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Mae Allen Briody. Tom was the husband of Ruth Gately Briody.
After graduating from Villanova University, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea. He later worked as an Engineer before graduating from George Washington University Law School. He worked as a patent attorney for General Electric, IBM, and North American Philips, serving as a Vice-President and Chief Corporate Patent Counsel. He later practiced law in Connecticut.
He was admitted to practice in New York, California, Illinois, Indiana, and the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals.
He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan and was a long-time member of Woodway Country Club, as well as Kiwanis and the American Legion of Wilton. He enjoyed New York Yankees baseball, his dogs, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Ruth, Mr. Briody is survived by his two sons, Thomas G. Briody and his wife Karen McGoldrick of North Kingstown, RI, and Scott F. Briody of Salem, NH, one sister, Mary Mahowald and her husband Anthony of Belmont, Mass, and five grandchildren, Victoria, Alexandra, Christian, Shea and Thomas. He was predeceased by brothers James and Patrick and his sister Nancy Kobrin
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday October 30, 2014 at 10:00 Am in St Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan, with interment in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton, CT. Friends may call at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan on Wednesday evening from 4 to 7 PM.
