Dear Kathy, Patti and Jon,
I am so very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He was my God father and held a special place in my heart. I still remember the candy wreaths that would adorn my door every Christmas that came from Jack and Kathy. I have so many loving memories of big Sunday Italian dinners either at Aunt Nettie’s or Pop Pops house on Ledge Ave where we would all gather and celebrate life. Sending you all much love,
Jackie and Mark Steigleman

I got to know Jack playing basketball. Jack was one of the original members of the "Fellas" basketball club where we met. Our friendship continued with monthly breakfast for many years after. I will miss his life stories and humor.

My kids are now in high school and seeing how much their day to day interactions with their teachers impacts them makes me think back to my high school years and especially how much I learned from Dr. Lapolla. I remember him well and when I consider how much I grew and began to see my teachers as people whom I respected and admired, I think especially of him. He left a lasting imprint on me and I am forever grateful to him for all that he gave as our history teacher at WHS. Thank you, Dr. Lapolla! We are indebted to you for the great patience, guidance and wisdom you showed us.

Well said Liz. Dr Lapolla was certainly one of my very best teachers at a school with great teachers. I remember two things specifically from his class: 1) any argument can be broken down into a “clash of values” and it’s much more productive to recognize different values than to argue around the perimeter and 2) the best humor is written humor, Dave Barry specifically. I bought every Dave Barry book I could (mind you this was when I was 17), and still quote them frequently.

Jack was one of the best teachers I can remember. He truly cared for the students he taught. My father Burt and I shared many rounds of golf with him at Silvermine Golf Club over the years and I remember him as always being a gentleman on the course and having a great sense of humor. He was a pretty good golfer, too. God bless, Jack. Thanks for the memories.

Jack was a warm & giving person who loved being curious, creative, and welcomed new ideas. He wasn't afraid to challenge a person's perspective, instigating interesting conversation and new insight. We will miss him very much and his spirit will live on in our memories. Love to you Kathy.

Dr. Lapolla was a standout memory for me at WHS. He cared so deeply about the subjects he taught, the quality of education he delivered and his students - always treating us like the adults we were trying to become. With my own son, I have referenced him often when a great teacher comes along. I expect he will be teaching Watergate from the heavens now.
Condolences and prayers to the Lapolla family.

Mr Lapolla was the only teacher, in middle school, who recognized I needed glasses and the first teacher ever to address "living up to my potential". Because he cared is the reason he's one of the only teachers I can recall from my school days. Even after 40+ years. Deepest condolences to his family & friends.
