Obituary of Matthew Francis Kapteina
Matthew Francis Kapteina passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, born in Stamford Connecticut. He was the husband of Genevieve (Bimmel) Kapteina. He was the son of the late Joseph & Antoinette (Pocograno) Kapteina.
Matt was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1962. During his high school days, he enjoyed playing soccer and belonging to the Art Club. Matt was a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, where he had a keen eye toward Commercial Art.
Matt proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. His last deployment in the Army was to Panama and he was Honorably discharged as a Sargent.
Matt worked for many years for the B&G stores, leaving at their closure as a Vice President. He continued working in the retail clothing sector for the Darien Sport Shop.
Matt was also an animal lover and cared for and enjoyed spending time with his four-legged friends.
In retirement Matt was an avid diy’r and enjoyed working on many projects to beautify and improve his home. He was also passionate about his gardening and had a green thumb, always striving to beatify his home.
Matt is survived by his wife, Genevieve, of 54 years. By his brother Tom Kapteina and brother-in-law Robin Bimmel, sister-in-law Marlene Lofaro, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
He was a spiritually young and vibrant 80, who fought a brave battle against Cancer.
The family would like to give a Big Thank You to the very kind and compassionate Doctors and Nurses who helped to care for Matt during his battle with Cancer.

Internment will take place immediately following at the Lakeview Cemetery, Main Street, New Canaan CT.
