Obituary of Louise Morey Severance

Louise Morey Severance died peacefully surrounded by family love on May 16 in Stamford, CT at the age of 94.

 

Louise is survived by her children Lynne Roe of Upper Saddle River, NJ, Laurie Johnson of Wilmette, IL, David Severance of Stamford, CT and Thomas Severance of New Canaan, CT, and 13 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) Severance of West Dover, VT, and brother Robert Morey of Tiburon, CA.

 

Louise was born on September 7,1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to Robert Morey and Elizabeth Brahm. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1950 and married Dick Severance, her college sweetheart, in 1952. After graduation, she attended Radcliffe College for graduate courses while working in the Harvard library. The couple then moved to San Diego, CA while Dick was in the Navy, and then to Chappaqua, NY where together they raised four children.

 

In Chappaqua, Louise was a successful businesswoman and community leader. As a realtor with exceptional people skills, she helped countless families sell a house or buy their dream home. She also served as a leader in multiple organizations including the school board in the Chappaqua School District, League of Women voters, Junior League and PTO. Additionally, she held several elected positions in Chappaqua and West Dover, VT, throughout her life. Her children remember her as a supportive mother who encouraged them as they pursued their goals.

 

Louise was known as a woman of great strength, grace, and love. She was an active member of the First Congregational Churches of Chappaqua and West Dover, where she also started and ran several programs to support youth. Her Food 4 Kids program in West Dover continues today and has ensured hundreds of children in need received a nutritious meal daily. She enjoyed the art of conversation, and all who came into her sphere of influence benefited from her warm personality, welcome all approach, down-to-earth wisdom.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

 

A graveside interment ceremony service will be held June 30, at 12:30 pm, at the First Congregational Church of Chappaqua, NY.
