Well, I am the last to learn of Skip's passing and sad that I have lost touch with him as he was spending time in NC. Skip was a great friend and Mentor to me! He even taught me how to play golf, which we did a lot of together is St. Pete Sarasota area. We even shared office space in St. Pete when I started my own business( only because he knew I could not afford my own space as a new business owner). I sure will miss his even temper and sound advice on many subjects. My sincerest condolences go out to JP, Lisa and Amanda... Coach

Iinitially got to know Skip through 10 years of living in New Canaan in the 1980s, but got to beter understand him through his son JP, who was a special friend, and his nephew PJ, who is my close god son. Skip was a man of many interests with always something to say on each one. I enjoyed him for his intelligence, candor, love of life and his friendship. May he rest in peace. God bless. Ron

Uncle Skip was not only my uncle but my best buddy. He taught so much about life simply by example. I am one of the many who will miss him greatly.

Skip has now passed from his earthly life. The life over the last many years that kept him from the earthly things he loved; his garden, his woodworking, his cooking. It is our prayer that in his new life he will find all he loved and more. AFor in the few years he was in our lives he gave us much love and was a God given, much needed member of our family. We miss you Skip and will hold you in our hearts until we meet again.

The town of Saluda will miss seeing Skip around he had many friends (and admirers). I had the honor of knowing him for just a few years but saw him almost every day for most of that time. What I miss most about Skip is his gentle smile, his quick wit and his kindness and his presence. We shared some quiet days on his front porch listening to his goats. I enjoyed working with him in his garden. Over many cups of coffee we shared stories about our lives. I learned about each one of his children, which he spoke of with a sense of pride. I heard stories about his mother. He even showed us the museum where she had some of her paintings in St. Pete. He spoke of his nephew, his brother and his friend Mary. One of my favorite stories was about his Indian Motorcycle that he had when he was a young man. He apparently got it against his father’s wishes and wrecked it. He was very skinned up and in a lot of pain which he had to hide from his dad. He laughed as he said he had learned his lesson. My eleven-year old son will also miss Skip. They had many entertaining conversations about New York over open faced peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Skip was always as kind to him as he was adults, which my son really appreciated. I met Skip at my wine bar, ironic since he never had a glass of wine. We had live music every weekend and he was a regular. He enjoyed the coffee, company and the music. Many nights as you can imagine a wine bar in a town of 500 in the South, Skip and I spent by ourselves. He didn’t talk much so I would ask him questions which he answered and rooted our conversations. We both loved to cook and so we could spend an evening talking about food. Many times he would bring a taste of what he had prepared. He was a good cook. Skip and my husband worked together on a wood project for me. He had a great wood shop and I think he may have made some of his own furniture. They worked for several days to get the project done. He was very patient and meticulous and the project of course turned out better than perfect. I will always value the time that we shared with him. I am glad to have had such a good friend.

“Sometimes when you're doing simple things around the house Maybe you'll think of me and smile You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse Keep me in your heart for awhile” We shared many sorrows, joys, love and a deep friendship. You taught me so much about life. Remember this is just a test. I will miss you my dear, dear friend. You will always be in my heart.

Dear Auntie Mary & Peter, Mike and I were so sorry to hear the passing of Skipper. It is such an unbearable loss, it is simply unspeakable. Whenever we think of Skipper we remember his quick wit & hardy laugh. If one was sad he could change your mood in an instant and make you laugh out loud. He was larger than life & we are sure heaven is a happier place knowing he is there. Sandra & Mike Benedetto
