Marion Jean Sadler Hazlehurst
1932-2024

Marion Jean Sadler Hazlehurst, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in her New Canaan, CT home on May 31, 2024, at the age of 91.  Marion was born on July 31, 1932, in Ames, Iowa, to Harold Wright "Hap" Sadler and Blanche Luella Teisinger Sadler.

Marion's early years were marked by a rich tapestry of experiences that laid the foundation for a life of love, service, and adventure. Her father, Hap, a distinguished professional in the dairy and refrigeration industries, and her mother, Blanche, a dedicated teacher, instilled in Marion values of hard work, resilience, and compassion.

Marion's journey took her from the heartland of America to various corners of the globe, each step shaping her into the remarkable woman she became. From her childhood in Pennsylvania to her adolescence in Maryland, Marion's life was intertwined with the fabric of history, starting with the tumultuous years of World War II.

Marion crossed paths with the love of her life, Harry Hazlehurst III, at a Valentine’s Day party in 1949. Their romance blossomed and their love story spanned decades and continents, becoming a testament to enduring love and unwavering commitment.

Marion embraced each chapter of her life with grace and resilience, whether it was raising a family, supporting Harry's career endeavors, or embarking on new adventures in foreign lands. Her strength, kindness, and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her.

In her later years, Marion found joy in simple pleasures – from pursuing her hobby of stamp collecting to spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild. She cherished moments surrounded by family and friends, finding solace in their love and companionship.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Blanche, her sister Margaret and her husband Harry. She is survived by four children, Susan H. Milbrath of Greenwood Village, Colorado; Catherine Hazlehurst of New Canaan, Connecticut; Janice Hazlehurst (Stephen Charles) of Bethesda, Maryland; and Robert W. Hazlehurst (Cindy) of Englewood, Colorado.  Additionally, she is survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Marion's celebration of life will take place at a later date. In the meantime, we invite you to honor her memory by supporting GetAbout of New Canaan, a service that meant so much to Marion. Your generosity during this time is greatly appreciated.

Marion's spirit, resilience, and love will be dearly missed but forever remembered. Her life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
