At 17, during World War II after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific on a subchaser as a radar petty officer. Returning from the War, he went to Lafayette College, his father’s alma mater. After graduating he again volunteered for active duty during the Korean War, spending 18 months as an officer on the USS Gull, a wooden mine sweeper active off Chinnampo, North Korea. After the war, he began his career in the pharmaceutical industry where he worked for Pfizer, J. Walter Thompson and retired from Doyle, Dain, Bernbeck (KPR).
In 1957, Bob married Nancy and they moved to Riverside to raise their family. Bob became a member of Riverside Yacht Club, and everyone fell in love with sailing on his Ensign named C-Lark. When he retired, they moved to New Canaan and Vero Beach, Fl. He became a member of New Canaan’s Senior Men’s Club and was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician working for New Canaan Volunteer Corps. Later becoming Town of New Canaan Commissioner, Chairman for Emergency Medicine.
