Although I haven't seen Domenic in a number of years, whenever we were together at a Connecticut Pharmacists Association meeting he always lit up the room. His smile was just infectious. If you were a bit down, just chatting with him for a few minutes would lighten your load. I am so sorry to hear of his death. I know this is a hard time. I hope all the memories you carry in your hearts and your minds sustains you now and moving forward.
With deep sympathy,

Dear Sammarco Family,
Sincere condolences on the passing of Domenic.
Domenic and my brother, Nick Panaro went to high school together at Fairfield Prep and I remember Domenic from when I was a little girl. Domenic was very thoughtful to reach out to us during my brother's brief illness back in 2020, which my brother and I both appreciated very much. So sorry for your loss.

It is with great sorrow that I read about the passing of Domenic. We had many, many classes together at Prep- in those days I thought of Dom as one of my closest friends at school. Although we had never seen each other since I have often thought of him and of those great times in our lives. Ironically, we've worked in the same town for years and never ran into each other.
My deepest sympathies to Betsy, Matt, and John. Dom was a great guy way back in the day– it looks like he’s been a great guy his whole life. Everyone who knew him and loved him should be proud of him. Rest in Peace old friend.

Losing a friend such as Dom is very difficult. I was with him just days before and remember telling me to let up on the small things in life that were stressful to him. Managing some of his properties I respected his ethics and how he would offer his tenants any assistance even if it meant he would be on the losing side as a landlord. His religious side and belief in God guided him. Taken from us much too soon my friend. God Bless you as you watch and join the many angels above us.

When we moved next door to Dom and Betsy a few years ago, we didn’t yet know the depth of our good fortune. Some months later, as we settled into our new home, I finally moved my racecar to its new home in our garage. I tentatively turned the motor on, doing my best to keep the noise down, unsure of how “understanding” our new neighbors would be of this loud, silly thing. When I saw Betsy walking over minutes later, I suspected she was upset. But when her first words were “Wait until Dom sees this!!!”, I started to understand some of our luck. The last few years are strings of similar memories; small, little encounters that I’ll always remember … like the time Dom walked over while I was cutting down some small trees in between our properties and proceeded to poke fun of my work attire - “those short shorts aren’t going to save you” - before spending the next hour showing me the proper way to use a chainsaw. “Cut down, not up” he instructed. We’d talk about his Corvair - “It’s like an American 911” - and it’s meticulous paint job one month, while investigating the damage to my racecar from my last race, the next. He was always giving and quick to share, and that’s something we should all cherish. Godspeed, Dom! We we’re all lucky - each our own way - to know you …

Dear Betsy, Matt, and John
I have never met anyone one quite like Domenic. He was a true angel to the three of you, his friends, and his neighbors. Julie and I always knew we had one person in the neighborhood who would ALWAYS look out for us and have our backs. It gave us a feeling of security. He was so generous with his time and energy, always lending a hand to help whether asked or not. I'll never forget how he would plow driveways for some of our elderly neighbors. I will always remember going around the neighborhood with him after Sandy to clear branches for neighbors. He helped everyone, even with that huge tree down in your yard. He was a great resource for me when I had medical issues and was trying to pick a local doctor. I trusted him more than anyone else. He knew. I have modelled my own "don't you DARE speed through OUR neighborhood" after Dom - he had a unique stink eye for those speeding drivers! My fondest memories were the laughs we had walking our little Pomeranians with Dom and Shiner. The conversations went in all sorts of directions that only a couple of guys with warped senses of humors could appreciate! I get sadder by the word I type here. He was such a great person. I miss him and all of you. May he rest in peace. (PS I wrote something in the NewCanaanite too). With Love, Patrick and Julie Swearingen

Dear Betsy, Katherine and I are so sad about Dom, always loved both of you. Our boys knew each other too. We will be up from Florida in June and I will try to contact you and maybe we can grab a lunch. I am so sad because the 3 of us were close. I worked a few days in the store so Dom could have the day off, and we used to take the kids to the library. Dom graduated from the same Pharmacy school one year after me. Which was always a connection. We have aged.

Betsy,
Don’t know if you remember me (we met on several occasions) but I just received the news about Dom’s passing from Colonel Knoll. It’s a sad shock for all of us who had the pleasure to know Dom. My sincere condolences.
I actually had the good fortune to interact with Dom in three different arenas.
As a fellow Army officer, Dom was the type of soldier you wanted to serve with. He truly embraced the tenet to always look out for the welfare of the soldiers in your charge. His leadership style I would describe as low key as opposed to bombastic. His organizational skills were top notch. He got the job done and the soldiers respected him.
Following my retirement from the Army, I interacted with Dom professionally on multiple occasions in my post retirement position as an Infusion RN. Dom’s clinical expertise was obvious and he always had the patients welfare and customer service as his first priority.
And finally on a personal level, I considered Dom a friend. He reached out to me on several occasions to collaborate on special projects with him. I really enjoyed that time.
Again, my sincere condolences. Dom had an overwhelmingly positive impact on so many different endeavors. We all mourn your loss.
John Grimes. Lieutenant Colonel, USA (Retired)
The photo was taken at West Point, NY on 9/11/2021. The 20th anniversary of another sad occasion. It was a pregame tailgate before an Army football game. All pictured were retired members of Dom’s Army Reserve Unit, the 405th Combat Support Hospital.
Back row L-R: John Skranski, Dom, Bob Guynn, John Grimes, John Botti. George Poole and Rolf Knoll are seated. (And I believe your son John was the photographer?)
