I was fortunate to serve under Ray in the New York office of Deloitte, and made partner under his leadership. He was a true professional and leader - but most importantly a gentleman.
May he rest in peace and his memory be a blessing.

I went through a very difficult time with a significant client when I had only been a partner for two years in the Detroit office. Ray was in NY by then and had never met me. Yet he wrote me a letter - by hand - that was so incredibly kind and supportive. I still have that letter 30+ years later. I have chatted with him at parties and receptions over the years and always remember what an impact he had on my career. To his family - you are so blessed to have had Ray in your lives - as are we. Condolences to the entire family.
When offered a H&S (now Deloitte) transfer from Boston to Detroit in about 1975, Ray (PIC of Detroit) was my first contact in Michigan.
From my first contact, Ray was the epitome of professionalism. Was he a "tough boss"? You bet he was. He expected his team to deliver, at all times, the highest level of performance----both personally and professionally. That was a given to be on Ray's team.
As mentioned in another post, his and Lois' annual Christmas celebration at their home was a highlight of the season.
Was proud to have worked with Ray and to benefit from his wisdom.
Ray's contributions to Detroit, the firm and me personally would be too numerous to mention or attempt to list.
RIP Ray Spinola

Ray hired me in 1970 over the objections of the then Partner in Charge (I had a mustache ). His faith in my abilities gave me the will and perseverance to become a Partner and complete 39 years with Deloitte. I was not alone-he was an excellent mentor and the ultimate professional. We always looked forward to a Christmas get together with him and Lois each year at their home in Birmingham. My son and his family now live in Birmingham about 2 blocks away so I drive by the street often and always think of him.

Ray gave us his warm friendship and dedicated service on the boards of his community here at Canaan Close for many years. His vibrant intelligence brightened all of his involvements and his quiet sense of humor was a trademark. I especially like to picture Ray in his luxe cars driving his smiling Lois wherever her wishes took her. The two were the essence of the happy couple living life to the fullest. I will always remember them with fondness.
I pray for his strong beautiful family that their unique many wonderful memories comfort them as they miss his presence.

As a new partner I was transferred to the Michigan practice in 1979 to head up our services to The Dow Chemical Company, Ray and Lois warmly welcomed our family to the Detroit area and quickly made us feel right at home. Ray was the epitome of a true client service professional and set an example for all his colleagues to follow. We continued to stay in touch even as our respective careers took us to different parts of the country. Our sincerest condolences to Ray's family.
