Obituary of Elizabeth H Waibel
The world is a little sadder place with the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) H. Waibel, age 92 of New Canaan, CT. She passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023 at Stamford Hospital after a brief illness. Betty was born July 15, 1931 in Castlederg, Northern Ireland, daughter of the late May Simpson. Betty came to the United States in 1960 later marrying Hilton O. Waibel (1919-1981) and raising two sons.
Over the years Betty was involved with St. Mark’s Church in New Cannan, St Paul’s Church in Darien and most recently New England Fellowship. Betty was an avid reader, and later after her eyesight failed, she spent time listening to audio books. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and always had a story to tell.
Betty is survived by her two sons John Waibel, his wife Elaina of Marlborough NH and William Waibel of New Canaan, CT. In addition, she is also survived by her grandchildren Chad Waibel of Herndon, VA and Caitlin Waibel of Durham, NC and her cousin Kyra Bothwell of Norwalk, CT.
A gathering of Betty’s family and friends will take place on Saturday January 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM with a service of celebration at 11:00 AM at Hoyt Funeral Home 199 Main St New Canaan, CT. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery in New Cannan and reception at the Carraige Barn at Waveny Park to immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers contributions in Betty’s name can be made to New Canaan Community Preschool.
