My old buddy, Robert. I could just walk through the woods from my house to his place over on Lakewind Road. I’d cut through the mysterious Clark mansion, travel down along the Hemlock strewn Rippowam, River, cut through the Hochstätter’s place, go past the Sheehan’s, and there you were. We could spend an entire afternoon sliding down the large hill behind his house on our butts. I think we called it Jones’s mountain. I’m not sure our mothers appreciated what we did to the rear ends of our pants.
I remember playing flashlight tag at the Jones’. Big brother John would rouse us from our hiding places by announcing that he was John Rice. It was an era when there was still a local axe murderer on the loose. After considering that, it was a real possibility that John Rice could be hiding in the woods, we’d go scrambling in to some cookies and milk that Marilyn had waiting for us in her warm, well lit kitchen.
At West school, I had a hard time convincing anyone that we should try out the new national fad, streaking, Of course, Robert was the only one who would join me on the playground.
I think we got into a little trouble, but the cachet of being, some of the few streakers in New Canaan was worth all the trouble.
Years later, at the memorial service for my dear, departed, father, of course the whole Jones family showed up to represent. By that time Gordon had also passed. Dad had a special bond with him.
I was so thrilled to see Robert coming out to pay homage to my pop. We shared a few minutes of conversation and recognized the bond we had since we were kids was priceless. I will always cherish that photo of us, along with assorted other West school buddies.
I miss you Robert. I think about you every day. I always remember your phone number; 966-5227 and your birthday, December 7; Pearl Harbor day.
You will always remain in my heart. My buddy. My pal.

May I express my condolences to Robert's family, who have lost a husband and father, and brother. Robert had a spirit that blazed brightly, and formed a center of attention wherever he was. We shared the joys and traumas of growing up together, NCHS '80, and would have instantly shared some laughs had we encountered each other; that is how I remember him: a person who appreciated friendship and never forgot the people who shared his life, in good times and in bad. Wish we'd had one more chance to hang out, my old friend, to recount some amazing adventures.

Prayers and Thoughts are with all members of the Jone's family. My memory of Robert playing on the Bears Little League team with Matt Ready and myself. Robert loved retelling the story of Ed Ready (Matt's father) walking to the mound when Matt was finished pitching his three innings and I was catching, "Tony take off the catching gear and you pitch, Matt put on the catching gear and you catch." it was followed by his big laugh. God Bless and may you watch over Robert.

To the entire Jones family, my deepest condolences on the loss of Robert. I had the good fortune to work with Robert for more than 15 years. "RJ" was the consummate professional, a talented media and sales executive devoted to ensuring his clients always received an outstanding customer experience. His wit, professionalism, fun-loving nature, and positive energy were hallmarks of RJ's presence, and he shared his time and expertise generously with his clients and his sales team. RJ loved and revered his family and was enormously proud of his children, Maggie and Robbie. He was a family man through and through and always wanted the best for his loved ones. Robert enjoyed being a "player coach" in his business life and there was no better example than RJ. Robert was a good man, a great guy, and a devoted husband, father, brother, son, uncle, friend, and colleague. We lost a hall-of-famer in RJ.

Robert, his parents and siblings were our neighbors on Lake Wind Road when my family and I first moved to New Canaan in 1968. We've always been grateful for their kindness and friendship. On behalf of the entire Stone family, please know that Robert and you are in our thoughts and prayers.
