Deborah Ann Prutting of New Canaan, CT passed away on August 8 th , 2023 surrounded by her loving

family after a years-long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on August 4 th , 1951 in Mt. Kisco,

NY to the late Frank J. DiMicco and Anna Muraca DiMicco.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, David L. Prutting, her two children, David X. Prutting and

Elizabeth Prutting Mendelson, their spouses, Chau Ngo Prutting and Daniel N. Mendelson, and three

cherished grandchildren, Lucas X. Prutting, Mai Layla Prutting, and Julian E. Mendelson. She was a

beloved sibling of Daniel DiMicco, Frank DiMicco, Laura DiMicco and Rosemary DiMicco, and a treasured

aunt by her many nieces and nephews.

Debbie was chosen as the first Miss Snowball Beauty Queen for the Winter Carnival held by the

Village of Mt. Kisco at the age of 16 while a student at Fox Lane H.S. in Bedford. She graduated from Alfred (NY) College with a business degree. While there she was exposed to prominent and accomplished potters and weavers which inspired a lifelong interest in Fine Arts and Crafts.

Following college she studied weaving, wool processing and dyeing at the Brooklyn Museum, and also dabbled in window display and design. Deb possessed a deft and delicate touch, and an affinity for soft palettes and delicate hues. Her displays, arrangements, and decorating style reflected a quietly skilled and muted sensibility.  A talented photographer, she possessed an

uncanny ability to capture and frame a profound moment or setting, particularly in nature. Mention sunset and Deb was out the door with her camera in hand.

Always fit and athletic, Debbie was an avid and accomplished swimmer and biker. Living on Cape Cod

she often made 25+ mile trips to work for her waitress job in Orleans, MA. Here she met her

husband Dave and they were married in 1975. Soon after, they moved to Houston, Texas where

rather than design department store windows Deb chose to join Dave working alongside him

in their carpentry and roofing business. While in Houston they also ran a Fine Art gallery--The Off Boulevard Gallery-- featuring some of their prominent Cape Cod friends’ work and those of talented local artists they befriended.

Relocating to CT in 1979 the couple founded and operated Prutting & Company Custom Builders, a

successful and well-regarded local business. Debbie was a principled business owner and on matters of

work ethic, scruples, and morality she would cut no corners.

She will be remembered for her vibrant, spiritual, and energetic personality, remarkable cooking and

calligraphy skills, her inimitable laugh, her witty gameday lapel pins (Turkey Bowl—Stuff Darien!),

posters and artwork, and selfless community service volunteerism. Above all, Debbie dearly loved her

family and her boundless energy impacted many. Some of her children’s friends considered her a second

mother and trusted confidant. If she was for your cause and on your side, you had no bigger advocate.

The family is planning a public Memorial gathering for Deborah on Saturday September 23 rd at

2:30pm on the Extown Farm Property, 485 Laurel Road, New Canaan.

In lieu of cut flowers they are requesting plantable flowers/plants ideally purchased through the Green Up Garden Center in New

Canaan, or donations in Deborah’s name to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, or New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance and CERTS groups.
