Obituary of Suzanne Tompkins Ramseur

Suzanne Tompkins Ramseur, 98, of New Canaan, CT, passed away on Monday, July 10th, 2023 after a long and beautiful life.

Sue was born on February 23, 1925, to Florence McKean Tompkins and Ralph Lewis Tompkins in New York City, NY. She graduated from Miss Porter's School in 1943 and continued as a participant in the Ancients. She greatly enjoyed volunteering at the Oxridge Club where she helped handicapped children ride horses.

At the age of 10, Sue met Thomas Michael Ramseur II in Nantucket, MA. They spent their first date watching The Wizard of Oz and were inseparable every summer thereafter. Once married, Sue and Tom went on to have three children, Thomas Michael Ramseur III, Andrew McKean Ramseur and Katie Porter Ramseur.

Sue was the embodiment of style, compassion and grace right until the very end of her life. She was intelligent with a quick wit, adored animals and had a rich social life. She was passionate about her family, friendships, pets and wildlife. She was a joy to know and will be forever missed.

Sue was predeceased by her beloved son, Andrew McKean Ramseur, her husband Thomas Michael Ramseur II and her siblings, Janice Tompkins Spurr and Ralph Lewis Tompkins. She is survived by her two children, Thomas Michael Ramseur III of Kalama, WA and Katie Porter Ramseur of Portland, OR as well as their spouses, Annette Darlene Ramseur and Tony Frank Garcia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Georgia Anne Bennett-Ramseur of Boston, MA, Christina Marie Garcia of Portland, OR, her great grandson, Jaivion Garcia and additional extended family members and friends whom she loved dearly.

It would be impossible to name every single person who was important to Sue, but they must know that they meant the world to her. The family would like to pay a special and most heartfelt thank you to her long term caregivers, Elaine Carrington and Tina Oliver, her nurse, Cathy Costello and Visiting Angels.

Memorial service to be determined.
