Obituary of Carlyn Jones Tiefenthaler

TIEFENTHALER, Carlyn Jones, formerly of New Canaan, CT passed away peacefully on July 13, 2023. She was 95 years old.

Carlyn was an undergraduate of Northwestern University and went on to earn her masters degree from Fairfield University and doctorate degree from Union University- all in the field of Psychology. She married college sweetheart, Donald, and they were married for 71 years until Donald passed away in 2022.

She is survived by her 7 children: Darcy Hightower, Kurt Tiefenthaler, Craig Tiefenthaler, Chris Tiefenthaler, Ross Tiefenthaler, Scott Tiefenthaler and Mark Tiefenthaler as well as 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Carlyn worked for 10 years as a school psychologist in Stamford and New Canaan public schools and later started a private practice for psychotherapy which she ran for 35 years.

Born in Salt Lake City, UT, Carlyn was an avid skier who shared her passion for the sport with her whole family, going on numerous family ski trips. She also loved to play golf, travel, knit and sing as an active participant in the choir at St. Marks New Canaan, where she worshipped for many years. She also served on the vestry of St. Marks.

Carlyn volunteered extensively, including at Waveny Care Center, visiting nurses and hospice of Fairfield County.  In 2017, she was honored as Woman of the Year by the AAUW.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at St. Marks in New Canaan on July 31, 2023 at 10am.
