Obituary of Valerie Louise Burke Wells

Valerie Louise Burke Wells, 95, of Wilton, passed away peacefully at home on November 26, 2022 with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Greenwich, CT on June 6, 1927 to the late Michael and Nellie (Carlson) Burke. She was the beloved wife of the late William Wells.

Valerie was raised in Stamford, CT and graduated from Stamford High School.  After graduation she worked as an accountant.  She married William Wells and built a home in Norwalk, CT to raise their children and spent over 40 years there.  Also, Valerie was a dedicated employee for over 25 years at CR Gibson in Norwalk, CT. Later in life, Valerie moved to a retirement community in Trumbull, CT where she was very social and active.  She spent many years as secretary and organizing events for her community association.

Valerie lived a long and wonderful life and was devoted to her three children, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She is survived by her son Douglas Wells and daughter-in-law Diane Wells of Adairsville, GA; daughter Cynthia Wells Gerry and son-in-law Glenn Gerry of Henrico, VA; and Allison Wells Mennitt and son-in-law Mark Mennitt of New Canaan, CT.  Her grandchildren Glenn Gerry Jr., Jonathan Wells, Scott Gerry, Brian Wells, Matthew Gerry, Jennifer Gerry, Ryan Mennitt, Liam Mennitt, and Colin Mennitt.  Her great grandchildren Jaelyn Le Proux, Jackson Gerry, and Jacob Gerry.

Val, as she was called by her friends, was full of life, fun loving, kind and caring.  She always had a smile on her face and was always planning for the next adventure.  She was a dog lover at heart and always had a soft spot for any dog that came her way.

A celebration of Valerie’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, New Canaan, CT on January 7th followed by the burial at Becks Hill Cemetery in Vista, NY, and a reception at Silver Spring Country Club, Ridgefield, CT.
