Obituary of Muriel W. DeLorio
Muriel W. DeLorio, 91, of South Salem, NY passed away on August 31, 2022 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side. Muriel was born on July 2, 1931 in New York City to the late William Gordon and Victoria (Kalvak) Wilson.
Muriel attended New York City public school until high school where she was accepted into the prestigious Hunter College High School and then Hunter College. She attended Hunter for her first two years and then enrolled in the Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing, a program within a hospital with a rich history and magnificent legacy. Muriel loved nursing and her career spanned several decades. She was the R.N. that family and friends always turned to for advice and care. All the while she remained active in the Episcopal Church, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School at both at St.Paul’s Episcopal Chapel, in Vista, NY and St. John’s Episcopal Church in South Salem, NY. She was a member of the Altar Guild and would help at any special event or service. She was also a very active member of the Lewisboro Seniors, holding the offices of President and Secretary. She was also a member of the Vista Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. Her most recent endeavor was tracing her English/Czech roots and ancestry and writing.
She was pre-deceased by her parents Victoria Kalvak Wilson and Willard Gordon Wison, her husband Michael Charles DeLorio, her only sister, Audrey Wilson Rutley and Audrey’s husband Kenneth Rutley, as well as many other relatives and friends she held dear.

She is survived by her four children and their families, Karl and Kim DeLorio (Lapolla), Victoria DeLorio Gruber, Diane DeLorio (Torres) and Ernest Torres, and Christine DeLorio Ingram. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren Evan DeLorio, Michael DeLorio, Alexander DeLorio, R. Maxwell Gruber, Olivia Gruber, Frank Hegedus, Victoria Hegedus, Mary Rose Torresr, and Lennyx Ingram, all of whom adored their grandmother.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Muriel’s life will be held at St. John’s Church in South Salem, NY on September 23, 2022 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Muriel’s memory can be made to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
