Obituary of Vera DeGruttola
Vera Marie DeGruttola, 92, passed away peacefully at the Waveny Care Center in New Canaan on Friday, July 4.
Born in New York City on July 31, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Serafino and Francesca Brayuha. Vera lived with her parents, her brother Alfred and their two sisters, Florence and Albina, on Haratio Street in the West Village in Manhattan during her childhood prior to settling in Brooklyn.
Vera was predeceased by her husband Anthony C. “Sonny” DeGruttola in 1979. They raised their family in Stamford, where they were happily married for 28 years.
Vera is survived by her daughter, Paula Savona and her husband John of Stamford; her son, Daniel DeGruttola and his wife Connie of Stamford; and her daughter, Jayne Gaynor and her husband Jeff of New Canaan; five grandchildren, Nicole (Brian), Danny (Brenda), Marcello, Nadine and Calvin; and four great-grandchildren, Amanda, Christina, Benny and Cecilia.
Vera enjoyed cooking for her family. She also loved dancing, singing, and reading fashion magazines.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Waveny Care Center for their years of care for Vera.
Funeral services and internment are private and were held in the family plot in St. John’s Cemetery, Stamford.
