Obituary of Ellen Finn

Ellen Finn, 89, a long-term resident of Darien for over 45 years, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022, with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 13, 1933 in Ireland to the late Thomas Patrick and Bridget (Tiernan) Boyle. Ellen was the beloved wife to the late Michael F. Finn of Darien.

Ellen emigrated to America from Ireland as a young woman. At first staying with an aunt who sponsored her safe transition to “The States”, she humbly took whatever jobs she could find. What little money she made, she was sure to send a portion of her earnings each month back home to her father Thomas Boyle in County Mayo.

It was at a dance in New York that she would meet the love of her life; an Irishman, nicknamed Mickey Finn. They may have grown up just hours away from each other in Ireland, but it would take the big melting pot of New York to finally bring their destinies together. Michael and Ellen were married on January 30th, 1960. Mike worked as a conductor on the railroad and Ellen studied to become a real estate broker and eventually founded Gatehouse Realty located on Hope Street in Stamford. Mike got his Real Estate license shortly after and they ran Gatehouse successfully until their retirement. She did this all while being a caring wife and mother to her husband and four children. Upon retiring, Ellen and Mike found their way home again to Ireland where they spent years vacationing in a custom home they built on land that Ellen’s father had left to her. This plot of land had been known to Ellen growing up as “the best field”. This homestead would bring many more fond memories for the generations that followed.

Ellen leaves behind three sons and a daughter, along with their spouses and significant others: Richard & wife Debra, Eileen & loving partner Tom Lawlor, Kevin & loving partner Heather, Thomas & wife Karen; 11 grandchildren: Kaitlin & husband Ryan Henderson, Bridget Melsenti & loving partner Eric VanSlyke, Connor, Dylan, Riley, Kathryn; Travis, Michael, Shauna; Tyghe & Sheila, and a great grandson Keiran.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 18, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Matthews Church, 216 Scribner Ave, Norwalk, CT 06854. The family will receive friends and family from 12:30- 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the mass at Queen of Peace Cemetery, 124 Rock Rimmon Road, Stamford
