Dear Family of Sandy,
I loved Sandy! From our first meeting about 30 years ago to our last random connection at the airport last year, every conversation was full of grace, intelligence and great good humor. I cannot tell you how many times I referenced Sandy's intellectual pursuits from early church history to types of pasta. Sandy was a power house and example of a woman of God being fully engaged in the gifts that God gave her. I will miss those quick but deep and meaningful conversations that broke from the conventions of the surface to the most elemental of life. Sandy was a treasure here but but now a treasure of heaven.
With great love to you Steve and your family.

Sandy was a wonderful, compassionate, kind and loving soul! I'm privileged and blessed to have know Sandy since 1982. I have many fond memories of Sandy's love and friendship, and I'll cherish those forever. My daughter, Samantha and I gratefully saw Sandy (along with Jessie and Steve) this August in Putney. As always, Sandy ensured that we experienced the local cuisine, history and culture. Not to mention the amazing mountain views! We are deeply saddened by Sandy's passing.
With Much Love,
Bill, Sammy, & Deborah Pocklington

Dear friends…below are extracts from letters I wrote to Sandy on our 40th and 50th anniversaries and read aloud to her at those family celebrations. They speak of my profound love for my amazing wife. I miss her terribly but know our separation is only temporary.
On our 40th:
My heart still leaps when I see you, even if we've been apart for only a few hours. I crumble inside when you get upset with me, because I so need to be right with you at all times. My need for closeness to you on the deepest levels has forced me to change and grow in character in order to meet your standards and maintain your trust. The truth is, our love is the anvil on which God has pounded out the man I've become. That's just the way it's worked. This love has been worth the thousand deaths this foolish man has been through to come to this place.
On our 50th:
There are so many things about being married to Sandy that have changed, formed and made life as I know it, there’s not enough room here to enumerate them. I suppose I could some it all up with this: My life began when I married her. I have no life apart from her. All life centers around her. There truly is not, nor ever has been, anyone like her. She has taught me everything I know about love, kindness and selflessness. I’m still amazed that she chose me. I guess this is where faith, grace and marriage intersect. I can’t separate them.

Sandy Silver (1937-2021). Sandy Silver, my dear beloved friend and sister in Christ. A brilliant biblical scholar, she was also one of a handful of people I had ever met in my life so infused with the Holy Spirit that she could actually light up a room. Devoid of ego and filled to the brim of her beautiful soul with compassion for all things, she was someone who had an ability to touch others in a way that was transformative. I met Sandy and her husband Steve while living in Scotland 49 years ago. They were newlyweds at the time. Stephen—a self-confessed pot-smoking “Jewish Hippy” 10 years her junior—had, upon first meeting, become instantly besotted with this clear, angelic and enigmatic spiritual sophisticate. Steve converted to Christianity, and the two married within a matter of weeks. Fifty years and three children later. Stephen had become, over time, a highly successful businessman/entrepreneur with homes in Connecticut and Florida. And Sandy remained a foremost biblical scholar. Her Blog and Website on Early Church history is an anthology of Ancient Greek, Roman and detailed Christian scholarship that is both cleverly-written and phenomenally well-researched. Having just turned 84 Sandy was headed for a long life when she fell backward in a shopping mall 3 weeks ago and suffered a cranial hemorrhage sending her into a coma from which she never quite revived. If her life exemplified anything it is that every day is a gift if you live it with love, compassion and the Spirit of Christ in All Things. And her death was not a tragedy but a walkover into a mansion that awaits all people of Faith. For she had already been with God all the days of her life. Goodbye my dear friend. You are living proof that there is Life in loving abundance on both sides of the veil. ~ Robert Joseph Ahola

When I think of Sandy ,I remember our times back in the late eighties of having our potluck dinners at the old carriage house, and watching her dance around behind the kitchen counter during our singing times of "The trees of the field will clap their hands". She was always curious about things ,probing peoples minds about what and why they believed something....ready to share her faith ,whether in a group or at the lunch counter in the downtown Woolworth's in ridgefield,ct. She was one of the few who loved on my wife even when she probably didn't recognize her in the memory care unit...she was convinced that the old Jerri was still in there....I never forgot her kindness. She will be missed but I picture her walking in the gardens of heaven with her many friends.

Our prayers for comfort and peace in the earthly loss of such a brilliant and beautiful Light. All who were blessed to know her saw how Sandy embodied the love of Christ in how she treated each person. She faithfully embodied the mind of Christ in her immersion in God's Word and in her passionate research and prolific writings. She reflected to all of us the light of, and hope in, Christ. "Three things will last forever, faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Cor. 13)
With all our love,
Theresa and Brian Hall

An irreplaceable friend, Sandy’s legacy as a faithful Christ follower who loved her family endlessly lives on forever. We can trust God’s promise we will be reunited, and only Joy will replace our sadness. May His comfort sustain those Sandy left behind.
Lovingly, Dutch and Bob Millard
