Obituary of Wendy Halstead Meyer
Wendy Halstead Meyer passed away surrounded by family on September 5th at the age of 81. She had been diagnosed with cancer in June.
Wendy grew up in Garden City, NY and graduated from Michigan State University, after which she moved to New York City. Her career included time at Mobil Oil, Mobil Sekiyu (Tokyo), McKinsey and Company and Citicorp, where she was responsible for the training and placement of overseas hires. After moving to New Canaan in 1973, Wendy was involved in the schools her children attended and the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, where she was an officer and developed an education program for children at the New Canaan Historical Society. In addition to her love for her children and grandchildren, she was passionate about the book group she founded with dear friends almost 50 years ago, the members of which remained devoted friends until her passing. In recent years, her competitive spirit found an outlet playing bridge, which she played with both old and new friends she relished. Wendy will be remembered for her boundless curiosity that nurtured her love of reading and travel.
She is survived by her children, P. Douglas Meyer (Stafford) of Bronxville, NY and Jennifer Ryan (Patrick) of Chicago, IL and six grandchildren who adored her, Reagan, JT and Lawson Meyer and Beau, Finn and Brooks Ryan. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Peter Meyer, and her parents, Kathryn Dyer Halstead and Douglas Mayer Halstead.
The memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Wendy Halstead Meyer Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o NCHS Scholarship Foundation, New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road, New Canaan, CT 06840 (https://www.nchs-sf.org/wendy-halstead-meyer-scholarship).
