In later years she served on the Northwestern Women’s Board and John Evans Club of Northwestern University. Following the war, Mrs. King moved to New Canaan in 1950 where she and William H. Mellick raised their two sons. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America as the Webb side of her family traces back through a long history in Connecticut to the original settlers in the early colonies. Rosalie was a member of the “greatest generation” sadly losing her cherished older brother Edward Gosselin at Pearl Harbor. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her love for and devotion to her children, her love for New Canaan, her strength of character, her perseverance in always doing what she thought was the right thing to do, her religious faith which sustained her during several very tragic life events and her romantic and sometimes free spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory should be made to New Canaan Baseball, P.O. Box 803, New Canaan, CT 06840 in memory of her late husband William H.
