It’s hard to imagine a world without Hazel Hobbs. She was a force of nature - bright, creative, and committed to bringing her best self to everything she touched. She was a wonderful colleague and a good friend, and the world and everyone she touched will certainly miss her.
I am so sorry I wasn't able to attend either the wake or her memorial service. Ed and I had planned to pay our respects to you all at the wake, but his appointment at Columbia Presbyterian in New York City lasted three hours longer than planned, so we didn’t leave the City until almost 7:00 PM on Friday evening, and on Saturday, we had committed to be part of our annual family reunion in RI. I was certainly thinking about you all throughout the weekend, but it’s not the same, and you remain in my prayers.
With sympathy,
Suzy (Fenwick) Burke

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Hazel when I taught nursery school at First Presbyterian and had her grandsons in my class.
Our paths crossed again when she discovered I was teaching high school English at New Canaan High. She loved sharing curriculum ideas with me and one day she invited me to her home to have tea and chat further about education.Mike served us that day playing the perfect host…even though we were chatting well into the dinner hour. A delightful time.
At a school board meeting in which I was making a presentation she eagerly smiled at me and when I was finished speaking she gave a lovely compliment and told me she would tell Jack and Charlie she saw me. Always thoughtful.
But my funniest memory of Hazel is when she stopped me at a school reception and asked me where I got my hair done. She liked how it looked and wanted to use the same stylist. So, from then on I would see Hazel at the salon and we still chatted about kids, school, and teaching. An educator at all moments.
I will miss Hazel’s smile, her soft voice, her passion for the people and things she loves. Heaven has gained an angel.

Dear Hobbs Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I had the great privilege of being in her second grade class her first year at Center School. She was warm, caring and nurturing. I have such fond memories, especially when she was heading the sewing class and we made red skirts. This is one of countless memories. I am so glad a couple years ago I got to see her at the Center School "reunion". My thoughts are with you at this very difficult time.
Kindly,
Rachel Ribetti SanFanAndre

Dear Mike and Family,
Hazel and I were colleagues at Center School, and I will always remember her sweet smile and even disposition. She truly loved teaching and possessed all the attributes to become a strong educational leader. When at Center, I had served as the school-wide writing coordinator and upon leaving, was delighted to see Hazel continue in that role.
Hazel was always a “giver” and she, along with Mary-Ellen McDonald arranged what can only be described as an extraordinary Center School reunion several years ago. It was wonderful to see Hazel and dear colleagues again, as well as to review an incredible number of Center School artifacts that Hazel and Mary-Ellen collected and so beautifully displayed.
My deepest sympathy to you and may you take solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in all who knew and loved her.
Sincerely,
John Fitzsimons
