Gary Joseph Stass, age 73, a New Canaan resident for over 36 years, formerly of New York City, died Tuesday June 18, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Jersey City, NJ July 15, 1939, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Doris Capp Stass. Gary was the husband of Nancy Tolman Stass. Gary attended The Pingry School in Martinsville, NJ and graduated from Dartmouth College, where he received a BS in History. Gary always had a strong interest in finance and enjoyed a distinguished career in institutional sales. He finished his Wall Street career at S.G. Warburg Securities in New York City. Gary was also an avid and knowledgeable collector of American Folk Art. He enjoyed meeting many people through this hobby, and he and his wife traveled frequently in search of antiques. His greatest passion though was spending time with his family. He took immense joy in the birth of his two grandchildren who brought him much happiness. In addition to his beloved wife Nancy, Gary is survived by his daughter, Kyle Rattigan and her husband Jay of Hoboken, NJ and their two children Hadley and James. Two cousins Karen Minich of Houston, TX and Gail Wragg of Mendham, NJ also survive. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 22nd, 2013 at one o’clock pm at the Talmadge Hill Community Church, 870 Hollow Tree Ridge Rd. Darien, CT. A private interment was held in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
