Obituary of Anna L. Recchia

Anna Loreta Recchia, 87, of New Canaan, CT passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 after a prolonged illness.

Anna was born in Settefrati, Italy to Giuseppe Socci and Angelina Pia. She and her loving husband of 64 years, Alessandro “Alex” Recchia immigrated to the U.S. in 1965 to New Canaan with their four young children.  Here they formed a true family legacy based on traditional values, strength and love.

Anna was the backbone of the family, a true role model for anyone who crossed her path. She was the light that shined bright at every family gathering.  Her kindness and hospitality reverberated during every holiday celebration. She brought family together to share her wonderful food and many fond memories. She especially enjoyed the company of family and her life-long friends. Those that knew her well referred to her as a “sweetie pie” as she was known as a gentle, kind and loving soul. When she was well,   during her rare free time, she enjoyed reading the Italian paper, Il Progresso, listening to Johnny Labarca’s Italian House Party on Sundays and watching her favorite game shows, “The Price is Right” and “Family Feud.”  She and Alex also enjoyed traveling upstate with family to their rustic “Cabin” in Hillsdale, NY.

Although she could barely read English, Anna proudly became a U.S. citizen in the 1990’s. She studied hard and succeeded with a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment. She tackled all of life’s challenges this way.

Anna is survived by her husband, Alex, and by her children, Maria Frattaroli (Claudio) of South Salem, NY, Emilio Recchia (Dorothy) of Wilton, CT, her brother, Loreto Socci (Judy) of FL and son-in-law, Manuel Allende of South Salem, NY. Anna also leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Maelina Frattaroli-Barbati (Patrizio), Nicholas Frattaroli (Laura), Joseph Recchia, Celine Hodges (Shane), Maria Recchia (Mihail) and Michael Allende as well as her great-grandchildren, Sofia Joy Barbati (2 years) and Eoin Hodges (7 months).  She is pre-deceased by her two beautiful daughters, Antonia Allende (1959-2021), Clara Recchia (1963-2011) and sister, Antoinette Socci Sirico (1939-1969).

During her final trip around the sun, Anna was extremely grateful for being under the wonderful care of her home helper and companion, Maria Elena.  Her family is especially thankful to the kind, compassionate care given to her by the wonderful staff at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT,  Waveny Care Center, New Canaan, CT and Meadow Ridge, Redding, CT.

The family will receive friends at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT on Sunday, March 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 29 at 10 am at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan, CT followed by entombment at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan, CT.  Attendees are asked to wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines. A live stream of the service will be shared for those who cannot attend in person. https://boxcast.tv/view/memorial-mass-for-anna-l-recchia-yaaeoh7artfzmtmhsfou
