Obituary of Edwin Igler

Edwin Rowarth Igler, of Redding, CT, formerly of New Canaan, CT, died peacefully on September 13, 2009. Born February 26, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Frederick B. Igler, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1950. He had a long and active relationship with his alma mater, at one time President of its Organized Classes, a member of the Board of Overseers, and received its Alumni Award of Merit in 1982. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, participating in the major south and central Pacific battles. Most of his business career was his 32 years with IBM in field and headquarters marketing positions. Upon his retirement from IBM in 1982, he founded and was President of Industry Systems Marketing Inc., a marketing consulting firm specializing in the retail industry. A 37 year resident of New Canaan, he was active in community affairs and was an active member of the New Canaan Congregational Church where he served on many boards. He volunteered for several community organizations. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, the former Joan Howarth; his son, Tom Igler, and wife Sarah, of Severna Park, MD; two daughters, Janet Smith, and husband Jeff, of Larchmont, NY and Karen Igler of Millersville, MD; two sisters, Janice Montgomery and Doris Ann Spencer; and 8 grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at The New Canaan Congregational Church on September 26 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Association at 135 Parkinson Avenue Staten Island, N.Y. 10305.
