Obituary of Myrtle Wood

Myrtle M. Wood, age 102, of Bolton, Mass, formerly of New Canaan and Ridgefield, CT died Thursday May 22, 2014 in Sterling, MA with her grandson Tom by her side. Born in Glenbrook, CT, May 15, 1912 she was the daughter of Percy O. and Ida Greer Morrell. Myrtle was predeceased by an older brother, Clifford, in childhood, and by her loving husband Samuel Albert Wood in 1971 whom she married in 1935 in the Union Memorial Church in Glenbrook. Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Sallyann King and her husband Bruce of Bolton, MA, her son, David Greer Wood and his wife Carolyn of Holland, OH, and six grandchildren: Thomas King, wife Laura, sons Jonathan and Michael Katherine Miu, husband Steve, sons Eric and Philip, and daughter Lannae John King, wife Karen, sons Brian and Andrew Judith Proteau, husband Michael, sons Nathan and Brandon Stephen Wood, wife Lisa, daughters Rachel and Cassidy, and son Hunter Michael Wood, wife Cheryl, and her son, Matthew Keiser Myrtle was an avid reader, and baseball fan. The Mets and later the Red Sox were her favorite teams. She loved her “wheels” and traveled much. She was a former member of Jesse Lee Memorial Church in Ridgefield, and the women’s society. She served as president for many years of the Ridgefield branch of the International Sunshine Society. She was a charter member of the OWLS and of AARP Chapter #4852. She was also a past Noble Grand of Mary Rebekah Lodge #51. She loved vacationing in Vermont and lived there a short time. Above all else she was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at 2:00PM in the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT with the interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
