Dear Michael and family
Please accept our sympathy on Joan's passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, you can celebrate her long and productive life. It was an inspiration to see Joan on her daily walks around Braeburn as she struggled with her illness.
We hope you find peace and comfort in knowing that her loss is felt by all who knew her. We feel the loss of a kind neighbor.
In sympathy,
Victoria and Ramiro Muoz

Joan you were and continue to be a inspiration to us all as an example of true christian living both in the full life you had achieved as well as the grace with which you faced your end...I think our dear Lord put you on this earth to inspire us all. I consider it an honor having known you. Rest in peace.

Dear Alyssa, I'm so sorry for your loss. That sounds so cliche, but I have so many mixed emotions that I'm at a loss for a sufficient way to express them. I'm so glad that your mother was able to face her cancer with the remarkable strength and courage that she showed. And I'm so sad for the empty place in your lives. But I know she'll live on in gestures and favorite sayings and in the memories of your family and her friends. I'll be holding you and the rest of your family in the light, to use the Quaker expression.
Sending all of you light and love, Adrian

God bless the entire O'Brien clan. I've been thinking of them all week, and my prayers and condolences. I only met Joan once, and she struck me as a very strong woman who would deal with death on her own terms. She will be missed, but I believe her spirit will continue to look after Michael and their outstanding children.

Joan added so much to the lives of all who knew her. An intelligent woman, she remained as the "salt of the earth" without airs or pretentiousness. She was brave in her humanity as well as in her illness. It didn't matter whether you agreed with her or not, she listened to an opposing opinion with such a grace that one felt good speaking to her on any subject. Being with Joan was inspiring. I know her light will continue to shine in all who knew her and loved her.

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Joan in person, but did learn of her joyfulness, her achievements, her strength and courage, through her sister-in-law Patty O'Brien. My condolences to the O'Brien/Meehan family on their great loss. I know Joan will live on through all of you.

We have such great memories of the O'Brien family in Paris, both at Marymount, St. Joe's and ASP. I clearly remember two things about your mom: her love of life, and always having little Willie in tow wherever she was! We are truly sorry to hear of your loss, and grieve with you. The best of her shines through you.

I am so saddened to hear of Joan's passing--she exemplified such courage and creativity right to the end, and although I met her only briefly, she touched my heart. Her memory will always live in her art and her words, and I am so very grateful our paths crossed.

I have never met strength like that I saw in Joan. What an incredible woman! Knowing her for only a breath of time, I have no doubt of the endless beauty in her wake.
Thank you, Alyssa, for sharing her light with me.

Alyssa,
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. My mom told me about it last night. She was a wonderful woman and such a good example to all of us growing up.
I will be thinking of you and all of your family this week and I know my parents will be at the mass on Saturday.
