Obituary of Robert and Marie Conio
Marie Rose Conio, age 85 and her adoring husband Robert Anthony Conio, parents of Angela Baldanza and deceased son Anthony Conio, both died peacefully April 9, 2020 and April 10, 2020 in The Bridges, Norwalk, CT. Both were Born in New York City and longtime residents of Staten Island, Marie was born April 3, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Angelina Viso Scappatori. Robert was born Jan. 2, 1932 and was the son of the late Antonio and Marianna Giluardi Conio.
Marie spent her married life on Staten Island , NY where she was a devoted wife/mother, homemaker. She had a career as a school aide at New Dorp and Tottenville High School. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family and just became a great grandmother to Lyla Baldanza and Alessia Conio. She was a loyal friend to many in the community and her favorite pastime was to travel which she and her husband did extensively throughout their 66 years of marriage. She enjoyed finding her roots in Calabria and connecting with her extended family. She and her husband spent many winters in Lauderdale by the sea Fla. enjoying the warm weather.
Robert was a devoted head of the family and was proud to be recently made a great grandfather. He was a twice awarded purple heart recipient in the Korean war where he served as a Lieutenant in the Army. Upon his return he married Marie in 1954 and shared 66 years of marriage. Robert enjoyed his career in the printing industry for many years as a linotype operator and then a proofreader. He also enjoyed travel, especially visiting his family in Genova Italy. He was a member of the Korean War veterans and participated in many services and activities with his fellow veterans. He was also a devoted Yankee’s and Giants fan.
Survivors include their loving daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Sandy Baldanza of Pound Ridge, NY. Grandchildren Gabriella Baldanza O’Donnell, Alexander Baldanza, Robert Baldanza, Anthony Conio, Nicholas Conio and Dominick Conio. Robert is survived by his brother John Conio.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the summer at St Charles Church in Staten Island, with Interment in Moravian Cemetery at times and dates to be announced.
