Obituary of Jane Anne Dempsey

Jane Anne Dempsey, 83, of Bonita Springs, FL and formerly of Bethlehem, CT passed away on February 26, 2020 at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born in Brooklyn, NY to Walter and Anna Ollinger on December 11th, 1936. She grew up in Ozone Park, NY and attended Our Lady of Wisdom Academy. Jane graduated as valedictorian of her class from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY in 1958, and earned her MA in History at Boston College. Jane met her future husband, Myles P. Dempsey of Brockton, MA while at Boston College and they were married in 1959. Jane was a faithful Roman Catholic all her life and an avid friend, volunteer and supporter of The Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, CT. Besides her faith, her family was first in her heart and she was extremely proud of her 5 children and 10 grandchildren. She enjoyed travelling and visited Europe, Africa and South America. She loved music and attending theatre and opera; she played piano and enjoyed singing and gatherings with family and friends. Along with her husband Myles, she was an enthusiastic supporter of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY and sponsored the Jane A. and Myles P. Dempsey Cancer Research Laboratories at the College. Jane was pre-deceased by her parents Walter J. and Anna Ollinger and her nephew Theodore J. Nohava. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, her sister Susette M. Nohava and niece Nicole Cetta of Lexington, KY, and her 5 children: Myles P. Dempsey, Jr and his wife Marilyn of Ponder, TX; Jennifer J. Torre of Ridgefield, CT; Rosemary I. Dahlman and her husband Craig of Stamford, CT; Katherine A. Haley of Danbury, CT; Kelly H. Connolly and her husband Mark of New Canaan, CT; as well as 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The Dempsey family will receive friends at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St. New Canaan, CT on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Jane’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry St. New Canaan, CT at 10:30am.
