I was absolutely broken hearted when I learned of Peter's passing. Peter was my commander in Operation Desert Shield/Storm and was my mentor for many years after that. I last saw Peter a little while back in Richmond with the love of his life Eileen. We had dinner and enjoyed a wonderful evening. He was truly a great friend and we conversed often over the 29 years since Desert Storm ended. I still laugh when I remember the look on his face when I would bring him either a cherry pie or a cherry flavored anything. He would give me a look that only Peter could give and then break into laughter. If it were possible to be brothers in spirit it was Peter and I. We had a bond forged in the Army during Desert Storm that could not be broken. We had a great working relationship and a great personal relationship. He was a great soldier and a great man and he will be missed. My condolences to Eileen and Brendan. I hope to get in touch with you soon and express my condolences. But Peter has now reached the rally point in Valhalla and heaven has gained another warrior and protector. I can see him now briefing St. Peter on how to improve security at the gate. Bless you Peter I love you and will miss you terribly. Until we meet again.

Eileen and Brendan, I was privileged to work with Peter over the years. He unquestionably embodied all the best traits of a true American hero. As we all know, he was an intrepid Soldier, a loyal Husband, a devoted Father and a superb Lawyer. He loved this Country with a passion. He was a wonderful colleague and friend. I will always remember him fondly and I pray that you will always find comfort in your memories and guidance in his truly remarkable example. May God bless you and keep you strong. Jim Marusak.

I was privileged to know Peter for almost 20 years as a colleague and as a client, but most importantly, as a wise and trusted friend. He was "old school" in the very best of ways. My team and I here in Boston will miss him greatly. My condolences to Eileen, Brendan and the rest of his family and wide circle of friends.

Peter was a great Sheppard for his clients. He took care of them they way you would take care of your own family. He was a great example of how to practice law. He will be missed.

I am shocked and truly saddened at Peter's death. He and I attended the Army War College. In our last year for some forgotten reason I had rented a car for the two of us to travel to Carlisle, PA. As it turned out it was a big Lincoln Continental. As other attendees knew we came from NY, they thought we were part of the mafia. We ended up together in Saudi Arabia for the war where Peter assisted me and my unit. I wish I could be there today to personally express my sadness especially to Eileen. Respectfully, Evo Riguzzi

Peter was a wonderful husband and father and a great soldier, lawyer, and friend. His fantastic sense of humor made every situation better, no matter how dire. He was a real standup guy. Hopefully, when God made him he didn’t throw away the mold. May he bless and hold him close forever.

Eileen and family, we were so sorry to hear this news. Peter was such a big part of the Toppin/Gallagher family circle. When I think about my dad and mom in their living room - so often Peter was sitting there with them. And always there was coke in my parents refrigerator - for Peter. He was a hero to all of us in more ways than one. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Much love, Mindy, Jamie and the boys.

Eileen, family, and friends, Peter was such a bright light in our world. When he was introduced to us well over 10 years ago by his dear friend George Barker, we knew we wanted Peter on our Board of Trustees at the Army War College Foundation. He was a former Army officer, War College graduate, honest and wise man, and a lawyer with a full career outside the military. He was also generous and kind and engaging with his time, his services, and his experience. We all loved working alongside him, and he became a friend for life. He gave us his heart and his big smile for encouragement, and when we needed a new direction, he gave us that, too. His cancer had to be so painful yet he "kept on keeping on," always serving others. A man of great faith, he lived with honor. I will never forget how he held me and others up when we needed him. In God's care now... he is. Love, Ruth

I am so sorry Eileen to hear of Peter's passing. He and I spent many Saturdays and Tuesday nights together (sometimes with Brendan) We shared a tent together in Turkey and pondered many of life's intangibles together. He was both my mentor and friend and I share in his loss.

Many fond memories with Mr. Langenus from our Troop 70 days, at various town events, of course the annual Memorial Day Parade, and as a family friend. His impact on all of us growing up, and the lessons we learned about civic duty, will carry forward. Our sincerest condolences, and utmost respect. -Theo Avgerinos and family

During the time that our sons were actively involved with the Boy Scouts in New Canaan we had the great privilege to get to know Peter. Peter was one of the real good guys. If honor and loyalty have value the world is a poorer place with Peter’s passing. He represented all the virtues that we might hope our sons would grow up having. A permanent memorial to Peter’s life will continue in the lives of the young men of New Canaan who had the great good fortune to be led by him during their adolescence. Peter perfectly embodied the title Officer and a Gentleman. He will truly be missed. All our sympathy and prayers are with Eileen and family at this sad time.

Mr. Langenus was one of the most decent and honorable people I have ever met. I will always remember how he treated every member of our Troop equally and believed that scouting's lessons in leadership, brotherhood and camaraderie should be available to all of the town's young men.
My deepest condolences to Mrs. Langenus and Brendan.
