Patricia Cutler Young, age 80, a New Canaan resident for most of her life died peacefully Saturday evening April 12, 2014 in Norwalk Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in New York City November 21, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Isabel Cutler. Patricia was the wife of the late Leslie T. Young who died in 1996. Pat grew up in New Canaan and where she enjoyed horseback riding through out the town on her beloved pony. She attended the New Canaan Country School, The White Mountain School in New Hampshire and graduated from Vassar in 1953 with a degree in American Studies and Art History. She married Leslie Young after college and lived in New York City briefly and worked in the back office of a brokerage firm. They were transferred, by Union Carbide, to Marietta Ohio in 1954 and returned to New Canaan in 1959 where they were both very active in the community. Pat worked for the New Canaan Country School as Audio Visual Director for several years, she later served on the board of trustees. She was an avid perennial gardener, painter and photographer. She had a lifelong passion for reading and was a member of a book group. She had a deep love of animals, kept ponies at the house for several years and always had a dog by her side. In the sixties she was active in the local anti Vietnam war effort. She was also a volunteer at the Norwalk Hospital artwork program. She and her husband built a summer house on Block Island in 1976, where her family had wonderful times together. Patricia is survived by her son William C. Young and his wife Penny of Glastonbury, CT her daughter, Anne Walker, husband Ronald and a grandson Coleman of Jarrettsville, MD. A Memorial Service will be held at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan on May at 8th at 11:00 am. the family will receive guests one hour prior to service. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the New Canaan Country Club.
