Obituary of Gita Treimanis
Gita Treimanis, 92, of New Canaan, CT passed away on April 3, 2014 at home with her
loving family at her side. Gita was born on July 16, 1921 in Maliena, Latvia to the late
Augusts and Minna Viksne Lapins
Gita was studying drama in Riga, Latvia when WWII interrupted her life. Her family had to
flee the country. Later in life she became an artist and had numerous art exhibitions in both
Soho and Chelsea area in NYC. When she retired in New Canaan, CT she was a regular
member at Silvermine Art Studios and continued her art. She is currently exhibiting at the
BWAC gallery art show in Brooklyn, NY http://bwac.org/
Gita is survived by her four daughters, Mara Treimanis, Zane Treimanis, Christine
Treimanis, Anne Treimanis, and her son, Gijs Treimanis. Gita is also survived by fifteen
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will hold a private Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gita’s
