What a woman, and a beloved elder at St. Paul's. So many memories. Now I see her walking, chatting, dancing, loving with other St Paul's elders who went on before her. Can you just see them - Linnea, Irma, Clarice! What a reunion!

Elva had spunk. From the moment I met her, and for all the years we knew her at St. Paul’s, I was always struck by the steel backbone in that tiny frame. She had a sweet smile, a special way of quietly encouraging people, and a powerful faith. I still think of our conversations. I’ll never forget her and will always feel blessed for having known her.

There isn’t enough room here for all my memories of Elva. So many hours spent at 492 and 468, playing games, eating, trips to Jones beach, summer evenings on our screened porch, football games, shopping trips, Kiwanis Park, holiday events, just to name a few. I even remember Elva getting a new car, and calling us to go for a ride. Our families celebrated good times together and comforted each other through the difficult times. I love the photo of Elva, it’s so her. Thanks for mentioning Janet. Yes, the two life long friends are together again and rejoicing in heaven. My prayers are with you all.

Elva was a very unique and loving soul. I will always remember being greeted with Elva's beautiful smile and feeling welcomed as "family" on Sunday mornings at St. Paul's Darien Church. She was a warrior for the truth and NEVER COMPROMISED even though some may have not agreed. But she always did so in LOVE. She loved the Lord Jesus, who was her Messiah and it was evident by the way she lived out her earthly life. She will always be in our hearts and she will be missed dearly until we meet again in heaven! I am sure there is quite a "homecoming" party still going on in heaven! Our prayers are with you Sandy and Sarah that you will find your peace in the wonderful memories and traditions Elva left with you. I know your faith is strong and that you know you will see your beloved Elva once again in eternity! Shalom...Joann & Bob Cerretani

I remember having lunch with Elva and three of her best friends at St. Paul’s in Darien one day. The conversation was lively and interesting, but Elva suddenly put down her fork and looked at the four of us sitting at the table and seriously asked “What would happen if I get old and forget all of you?” One of the women immediately replied, “Don’t worry. We’ll remind you!” Elva thought for a second or two and then asked us all, “What if you don’t remember?” At that point, I literally choked on whatever it was I was drinking and had to leave the room.
Ah, Elva….see….I kept my promise. I remember you – with a smile!

My sincere condolences to the family Macklem for the lost of your beloved mother Elva, sharing this message from the Bible where our God Jehovah promised a resurrection for our dear ones Acts 24:15; and give everlasting life here on the earth in a renewed paradise Psalms 37:11,29, while we wait for these blessings in a near future that the peace of God be with the family.
