Sadly, I didn't know Mr Fowler personally, but he will always have a special spot in my heart. I was born in 1963 and he was my favorite TV persona. I feel my own ability with animals is from watching Mr Fowler and his kind ways with all animals. When I found out about his amazing research with Harpy Eagles I was smitten! Mr Fowler please RIP and thank you for all your selfless devotion to our Earth and the beautiful creatures within.

The Fowler boys were legends at Earlham College. Each filled the role of Robin Hood at the May Day celebration. Advisor Jim Cope guided and was so very proud of his student, Jim Fowler, who later took him to South America on a trip which collec ted, I believe, his Harpy Eagle. Cope caught Malaria but recovered.
Betsey, you knew me as Ruth Vourax. The last time we met was when you and Jim brought newborn Mark to visit us at Conner Prairie, north of Indianapolis. Prior to that, before you were married, you were guests in our home in Winston Salem, N. C.
Still earlier, Jim had most graciously been the featured and star speaker for the dedication of the Nature Science Center, a fledgling new museum of a few years, of which my husband Myron Vourax was the director. Jim released a falcon from the stage, which flew to Myron at the back of the auditorium. We broke the fire laws! People were standing in the aisles. Jim's Harpy Eagle was perched in our back yard, tethered of course. He also brought a 2 toed sloth which was in a large cage on a play table in daughter Celeste's room. Jim lightly sprinkled it because it needed to be kept moist. While Jim and Myron were out, son Tony further sprinkled the sloth. When Jim discovered that, he was alarmed, thinking the sloth had a burst bladder - until toddler Tony assured him he had helped with the sprinkling.
Keeping up with Jim's ventures, leadership, television appearance with Johnny Carson, and certainly on WILD KINGDOM brought much joy and admiration. Jim was truly a modest, gentle persevering leader who has influenced countless people that we MUST treasure our natural world. He was a treasure and gift.
Our tender encouragements and affections come to you and family.
Much love/Ruth Reynolds

To the family of Jim What a fine gentlemen. I had the pleasure of having Mark and Jim to North Dakota for a 4 day pheasant hunting trip what a memorable experience listening to all stories of Jim's travels . A few years late Jim also took us for a tour of the explorers club in New York where he was such a great host. Thanks for the memories . Rest in Peace Steve Schwan Bismarck North Dakota

I am so pleased to be able to write my loving memories of Jim. We met at First Baptist Church in Albany. Such fun to worship and sing together. Then, we began dating and did so for two years.
Jim was the finest man I have ever known, even more so than my dear husband.
The last time we were together was some years ago here in Chattanooga at the Nature Center (Reflection Riding}. I heard he would be there to laugh a special eagle, so I took me out to see him. When he saw me, he picked me up! He said for me to go over to that pavilion and wait for him. WE had a hard time doing that because of all the reporters wanting to interview him. But connect we did. He gave me the latest on his family, say that he knew I would love Carrie!
We had some great times down there on Mud Creek Rd. in Albany. We floated in a canoe, Enjoyed being with his parents and friends.
How fun it was to ride in his Packard touring car, driving through town, peeking out from the widows and rolling them down.
Family, your dear one was the purist human being I had ever known. I loved yours Jim,even took him down to our little cabin on Cherry Lake. Mother and I fashioned a longer bed by putting pillows on a small table!!
Today, when I learned of his Promotion, I shed tears! No reason, really, but emotions are strange things.
I will always love your dear Jim!!
Lovingly, in Christ,
