Obituary of Dorothy Gough

Dorothy M. Gough Dorothy M. Gough of Redding died peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 4 following a brief illness. Dorothy was born on May 11, 1924 in New York City and was the daughter of May and William Korsek. She was happily married to J. Russell Gough (deceased) for 64 years and had 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Mrs. Gough grew up in Flushing, New York, graduated from Queens College and married her life-long husband in 1946. Before starting her family, Dorothy was a buyer for Bloomingdales Department Store in New York City. The Goughs raised their children on Long Island prior to moving to Connecticut in 1977. After living in New Canaan for 34 years, Mrs. Gough moved to Redding in 2011. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her family was always her pride and joy. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings, which were always joyous occasions for her large family. An avid gardener, Dorothy loved spending time in her flower gardens and making beautiful floral arrangements. While in New Canaan, she was active in the New Canaan Sewing Group, the New Canaan Women’s Club, the Newcomers Club, and in managing a local thrift shop. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in New Canaan. Dorothy also enjoyed participating in gourmet clubs and playing in bridge clubs with her husband both on Long Island and in New Canaan. Dot, as she was affectionately known to friends and family, truly put others needs before her own over the course of her entire life. She seldom spoke negatively about anyone, and always gave others the benefit of the doubt. A strong faith and self-deprecating sense of humor allowed her to get through any adversity and to put a smile on the faces of those around her. Dorothy’s life was lived with grace and dignity, and was one of giving both physical and emotional support unconditionally. We will all miss her. Mrs. Gough is survived by her daughters Janet Bedol of Norwalk, Nancy Carlin of Newtown and Susan Delage of Sherman, and her sons William Gough of South Salem, NY and Russell Gough of Ridgefield, in addition to her grandchildren and great grandchild. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 5-8pm at Hoyt Funeral Home. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday 10am, May 8, 2013 at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
