Obituary of Luis Moreno
Luis A. Moreno, Jr., 92, of Wilton, CT passed away on April 30, 2013 at Wilton Meadows Health Care Center. Mr. Moreno was born on February 13, 1921 in Havana, Cuba to the late Luis and Maria Aragon Moreno of New York City.
Luis graduated from the High School of Commerce in New York City and soon after, volunteered for the Army Air Corps where he proudly earned his Sargent’s stripes as a medic and a communications officer in WWII, serving both in the UK and France. He returned home to join the firm of Crespi and Fernandez and later Frank B. Hall, specializing in marine insurance. He eventually established his own firm of Moreno International, Inc., in Westport, CT.
It was in New York City that Luis met and married the love of his life, Norma Thomsen Moreno de Gallegos. Norma and Luis eventually settled in Wilton, CT where they happily raised their family on West Meadow Road until 1994, when they retired to Heritage Hill Road in New Canaan. There they remained until Norma’s death in 2010.
An avid golfer, Luis was a longtime member of the Silvermine Golf Club in Norwalk, CT. He also enjoyed many years of membership at the Roton Point Beach Club in Rowayton, CT. The couple traveled extensively throughout Europe and Central America, where they enjoyed many close friends and extended family.
Elegant and handsome, Luis was the embodiment of a gentleman. It was impossible not to like him. He was a dedicated son, a loving husband and a wonderfully kind and caring father and friend.
Luis is survived by four children, Robert A. Moreno and his fiancée, Judy King of Princeton, NJ, Steven L. Moreno, of Boca Raton, FL, Maria Cristina “Tina” Smith and her husband Mark, of Norwalk, CT and Victoria Oligino and her husband James, of Bridgeport, CT. Luis is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Stephanie Smith Towers and her husband Adam of Norwalk, CT, Natalie Smith and James Oligino of New York City, Cristina Smith of Canaan, CT and Michelle and Annette Moreno of Princeton, NJ.
Luis’ children are grateful to the staff of Wilton Meadows Health Care facility for their kind and excellent care as well as to Dr. Alan Radin.
