Obituary of Richard Engelke
Richard A. Engelke, age 80, of Naples, Florida, formerly a longtime New Canaan and Norwalk resident, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Masonic Care Home in Newtown Connecticut. Born in the Bronx, New York in 1932 he was the son of the late Catherine Johnson and Arthur Engelke.
Richard served his country as an Army paratrooper in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Connecticut where he started as a mason and eventually became a residential builder. Richard was a regular swimmer and avid music fan, particularly Jazz which he enjoyed going to experience live at festivals around the US and Europe with friends.
Richard is survived by his former wife, Theresa Engelke, two sons, Richard J. Engelke and his wife Karen Ferraro of Newtown, Connecticut, Mark Engelke and his wife Nicole of Chatham, New Jersey, his sister Margaret Fagan of Watertown, Connecticut and eight grandchildren, Rich, Brian, Matt, Brianna, Michele, Robin, Will and Alec.
A son Ronald Engelke and brother Robert Engelke predeceased him.
A Funeral Blessing will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:00 am at St Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT. Interment will be at St John Cemetery, Norwalk. The family will receive friends on Friday evening at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan from 4 to 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society in memory of Richard A. Engelke.
