Barbara Logie Jakacki, age 75, of Ridgefield, CT and long-time resident of New Canaan, died at her home on Sunday March 24, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Upper Montclair, N.J., Barbara attended Montclair High School. She went on to attend Cedar Crest College and graduated with a B.S. in Home Economics in 1959. She met her husband Ben while they both worked at the Thomas J. Lipton Company in Hoboken, N.J. They were married in June 1963. Barbara was a gifted and creative cook who throughout her career enjoyed developing recipes for many food corporations including Lipton, Oroweat Bakeries, Sunbeam Bread, and Celestial Seasonings Teas. A selection of Barbara’s recipes was published in Cooking Light magazine, and she wrote a cookbook comprised of her favorite recipes, A Tapestry of Soups and Stews. Barbara was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting and many forms of handwork. Soon after moving to New Canaan in 1976 she joined the Park Street Singers and the American Association of University Women, two organizations in which she was an active member for almost four decades. In recognition of her longtime commitment and volunteer contributions, Barbara was recognized as the 2012-13 AAUW New Canaan Branch Named Gift Honoree. She loved to travel and spend time with her family at a beloved summer residence in Bridgton, Maine. Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Douglas and Mary Logie; and by her husband of thirty-nine years, Ben Jakacki. Barbara is survived by a sister, Virginia Carr of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, a daughter, Diane K. Jakacki of Atlanta, GA, a son, Robert S. Jakacki and his wife Peggy Nelson Jakacki of Chappaqua, NY, and a daughter Lynne Jakacki Eyberg and her husband Rand M. Eyberg of Stowe, VT. Barbara also leaves behind three adored grandchildren, Katie, Emily, and Scott. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 6, 2013 at 12:00PM at the Congregational Church of New Canaan, Park Street, New Canaan, CT. Interment will be private.
