Barbara May Shepherd, age 97, a New Canaan resident for over 35 years died Monday March 18, 2013 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, MA, June 16, 1915 she was the daughter of the late Eldon S. and Edith Crane Clark. Barbara was the wife of the late George Webster Shepherd, Jr. After graduating from Michigan State, she taught home economics and then returned to her roots in Boston, married “Webster” and they started their family. A woman of positive attitude, she pursued her love of golf and painting despite her progressive loss of sight. Every child, grandchild and great-grandchild received an original card she painted for their birthday. Survivors include her three daughters, Judith DeBrandt and her husband Dennis of Rockville, MD, Susan Shepherd and her husband David Morse of Longmeadow, MA and Barbara Shepherd of Juneau, AK Two sons, George W. Shepherd III and his wife Madeline of Stamford and David Shepherd and his wife Priscilla of Darien, CT one sister, Janet Acker of Grand Rapids, MI, 12 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren also survive. A private family celebration of her life will be held on Block Island. In lieu of flowers a contribution in her memory to Save the Children or The American Heart Association is suggested.
