Leona K. Wolfgruber, age 92, died March 12 2013 in Waveny Care Center, New Canaan, CT. Born in Tonawanda, NY August 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Helen Sahr Kumro. She was the former wife of the late Dr. Paul J. Wolfgruber, MD. Leona graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo as a Registered Nurse and worked at the Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo. She was married in 1946 and, after a brief period in Governour, NY, moved to Arkport, NY, where her husband established his medical practice. Leona was extremely active in the Arkport community for over 50 years and she was a calm and constant presence at the Arkport Presbyterian Church, and was a substitute teacher at the Arkport Central School and as well as a Nurse in both hospitals in Hornell, NY. In addition to her former husband she was predeceased by her son Paul (Wink) who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1965. In 2001, Leona move to New Canaan, CT, to be near her son, Kurt Wolfgruber and her four grandchildren; Derek(32), Christian(28), Hayley(27), and Heidi(23). She has been a resident of the New Canaan Inn and, since 2004, the Village at Waveny Care Center, and is affectionately remembered by her nickname “Lovee” which is also the name by which she addressed all that she met. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 4 PM in the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT 06840. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM.
