Elizabeth Anne Ward, age 81, a New Canaan resident for over 28 years died peacefully on Wednesday December 26, 2012 at her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, July 15, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Alcide and Marguerite Pariesien Gareau. She was the wife of R. Vance Ward, they were married on August 15, 1953 and are now in their 60th year of marriage. Elizabeth received her BA from Queens University, Kingston Ontario, Canada in 1951. They moved to New Canaan in 1984 and for the last 28 years she has taken an active role in community activities including volunteering at the New Canaan Library, and Silver Hill Hospital. She was also an active member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE). In addition to her husband, R. Vance Ward survivors include five children, Carolyn Ward, Jennifer Beaulieu, Philip Ward, Katherine Ward and Karen Ashmele and thirteen grandchildren, Kristina, and Karl Huber, Marc, Lea, Paul and Anne Beaulieu; Russel, Jacob, Ellen and Jillian Ward; Elise, Nicolas and Benjamin LeBrun and her brother, Paul Gareau. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday January 5, 2013 at 1:00 PM in St Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Rd, Darien, CT Interment will be private.
